An interesting tidbit, perhaps: I make up most of the slang for the Shaderunners world, but I base the cadence and 'feel' of that slang on that of the 1920s. 'Cash or check' is, however, actual 1920s slang--it basically means 'now, or later?' (and usually in the context of a kiss).
